[Discuss] Unethical reverse seo
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:54:59 pm »
Reverse SEO is the unethical  technique that helps to improve own site's ranking and decrease the competitor's ranking. To do this one has to do huge spamming of the competitor's site with lot of links to other sites/Porn links etc .So Google thinks that this site is trying get ranked by huge spamming and so the site gets penalty and disappear from the search engines completely.

something you use in reputation management, google is aware of this technique and i think if u have a lot of good back links then some bad ones won hurt but i really wanna know if spamming the shit otta ur competitoor will really kick them outta business or are we making some money for them by just promoting them and building links for them

I think in the long run, this strategy will backfire.  As you noted, you are building links for them and like they say, "even bad PR is good pr if they spell your name right".  Eventually, the 'bad' links will fall off and any good ones that you accidentally slipped int will just add strength to the competition.  As long as you keep that in mind and use it as a short-term strategy, it might work.

but what if i am using adult or porn keywords as anchor text ?isnt that give them a wrong sense in eyes of google , or spamming 10k links each day to site , wouldnt that mean a complete sandbox
i saw cases where peoples online rep gets ripped off by some unethical , low life seo person - can we notify google about this ?

I had a lame competitor do this to me. Site dropped for two weeks then skyrocketed to the top. If you have this mindset then please go ahead and hit your competitor. You are wasting your own time playing with a site that isnt yours when you could be focusing on your own backlinks and content. Think smarter not harder. LOL

I would never get into stuff like this. It is always better to work on my progress than someone else failure. The time I would waste in doing some bad work on someone elses website would be used to build quality backlinks for my own site :D

What he said, If I have an extra 20 minutes to set up the Scrapebox, I'll rather use it to find some good KW or niche related blogs I can post to then to spam someone else.
But for the sake of discussion I'm confident that stuff like this works very well for sandboxing the competition, especially younger sites.

One more question - is there any way to defend your own site form this?

I dont see a way to defend it. But if your site has unique content, link diversity with quality links then you dont have much to worry about. If your site was built like crap with just low quality links then expect to get knocked down a few spots in the serps.

About the only way would be to outlink build them and just hope for the best...just keeping an eye out for it would be the best bet.

Its a waste of time unless you are 100% into BAD KARMA.  Just like the majority states better off using time energy and thought on positive things to do on your own sites/work.  Although I have read many many threads on this and I am really unsure about it affecting negatively in the long run.  One of my main competitors #1 I'm # 3 on this keyword he has all kinds of junk linking to him including porn I did a small test scraped his links with exact keywords and hit my site.......no up no down no movement at all
