Question About Ranking Pages
« on: November 05, 2011, 07:03:21 pm »
Okay, I have something that I am a bit confused about for you experts out there. When I made my sites, I really had no idea as to what I was doing, I just threw up content, and just basically built links to my homepages.

Since then, I have learned the importance of internally linking your pages to your homepage, and just basically building links to your pages which will then send juice to the homepage as well. I was told that it is a good strategy to try to build each page or post for an individual keyword or keywords.

So here is my question. We all know that it is a good idea to constantly be adding fresh content to the site. So, if I have already built enough pages or posts and am out of keywords to use, what should I do with the additional pages or posts that I am adding. Should I try to rank multiple pages for the same keyword? Or should I just add content, and not worry about trying to ranking any more pages?

Hope I'm not confusing anyone.

Thanks, I would appreciate an experts advice.

I use both. I go through all my old pages and add a new paragraph here and there. I also add new pages tacking on to additional long tail keywords of keywords I am already going for.

I think you should decide any main article for a particular keyword to rank for. and whenver you add unique content ,you should backlink it to this main article you want to rank

It depends how competitive the keyword is and where it's currently ranking.

If you're number 1 then you don't have to add new content unless it's the type of keyword that Google thinks should have fresh content, ie, is very time-dependent.

If you're not number 1 then adding more content to your pages is VERY beneficial post-panda.

Your main domain targets the primary keywords and you can list all the articles there on the main index but when you click on an individual article it goes to its own page.

So when you add new content you should be both targeting new keywords you've not targeted before, the same keywords as before to add even more content for them and then giving each article its own page linking back to the home page as well as on the main index home page displaying all posts/articles as the index is generally where the bulk of your traffic will come and will be targeting your main keywords. (unless you're a very very large site)
